Navman Unveils New Flagship 8120 Multifunction Navigation System
24/02/2006
Navigation Leader Introduces New Integrated Device with Breakthrough Form and Functionality

Navman, a leading designer and manufacturer of world class marine electronics, communication and global positioning system (GPS) products, announced today its first large screen, multifunction navigation system, the Navman 8120. Loaded with chartplotter, sonar, radar (avail. 9/06) and video capabilities, the 8120 marks a revolutionary change in Navman styling that will complement the dash of any vessel. Complete with built in SmartCraft™ capabilities, and a digital fuel computer for gasoline engines, the 8120 maximizes helm real estate while eliminating the complexities associated with the operation of multiple devices.

Combining the technology that has made Navman the power player it is today, the 8120 features include: a super-bright 12” SVGA display with 170 degree viewing angles for use in all lighting conditions; large, clearly identifiable keys for ease of menu navigations; a powerful variable four-way split screen feature allowing users to define and set window size based on visual preference; and a user-definable and configurable one-button “favorites” access pages to show boaters the information they want to see, the way they want to see it, when they want to see it.

Designed for serious fishermen and boaters, the Navman 8120 includes a satellite differential GPS and sounder as standard equipment. Chartplotter features include: a 32 MB worldwide background chart, C-MAP NT MAX cartography capabilities with port and tide information; user variable split screen; chart & chart viewing (allowing for overview and detailed map on same screen); a quick access GOTO key; a man overboard button; arrival radius, danger, anchor, XTE and low fuel alarms; and a 3000 waypoint capacity. The Navman 8120 supports 10 languages.

Fishfinder features include: a 200/50 kHz dual frequency transducer (with mixed or side-by-side viewing capabilities); 3000 foot depth capabilities with a choice of 600W or 1kW RMS power, up to 100X zoom; cruising and fishing modes; too shallow, too deep, fish, low battery, temp value and temp rate change alarms; auto range and gain; and bottom lock.

“The new 8120 is a powerful addition to the Navman product line, built for boaters, by boaters,” said Dennis Hogan, marketing manager, Brunswick New Technologies Marine Electronics. “Our slick new style represents a breakthrough in engineering and design; and we have incorporated more features than ever before, without sacrificing principle ease of use for which we are known. Our 8120 is the ideal choice for boaters who need single system access to all critical information but are not willing to sacrifice functionality.”

Like Navman’s existing combination devices, the multifunction 8120 features SmartCraft capabilities and Navman’s proprietary digital fuel computer. Using the Navman SmartCraft gateway, the 8120 can be directly connected to many Mercury engines enabling the display of detailed diagnostic information on the device’s screen. SmartCraft features include: fuel flow and fuel management; troll control using speed or RPM; boat speed using paddle wheel, GPS or pitot; and comprehensive engine diagnostics/history. For boats without Mercury engines, Navman’s unique and innovative gasoline fuel technology connects to a boat’s fuel line and provides readings on fuel flow and fuel remaining, as well as fuel economy and range.

Additional features of the Navman 8120 include: video input capabilities for displaying on-board CCTV engine and security camera or DVD-player images; as well as DSC position reporting, buddy tracking, and barometric readings, when used in conjunction with a Navman 7200 VHF radio. An adjustable mounting bracket and flush mount kit is included to accommodate boaters’ installation preferences, and a protective cover is supplied to safeguard the 8120 display. Connectivity to other on-board electronics is accomplished through NMEA 0183 or Navman’s high-speed NavBus. The Navman 8120 is IP67 compliant, and comes complete with a 2-year limited parts and labor warranty.
