30/10/2005 Scotland on Sunday Terry Murden – Business Editor The rising popularity of in-car systems has helped a thriving Glasgow firm to a 70% rise in turnover and encouraged it to spread its sales pitch into Europe. TotalPDA, a reseller, has emerged as a market leader in providing a wide range of navigation systems that were once found only as added extras offered by luxury car makers such as Mercedes and BMW. Now for less than £500 they are being fitted to lesser models and contributing to a surge in sales for TotalPDA. "This sector has really taken off in the last 12 months," said Mark Antliff, managing director. "Improving technology means these systems are within the reach of ordinary drivers." Sales of satellite navigation systems helped TotalPDA Ltd. Increase turnover to “10.1m and the firm has struck a deal with Korean manufacturer TIBO for exclusive distribution of its Multimedia GPS (Global Positioning Satellite) system. This in-car guidance unit can also play movies and provide directions to the nearest petrol station. With a dominant position in the UK market, TotalPDA is now looking at Europe in the hope that expansion will give sales a further leg up. Said Antliff: "This is a natural progression for our business. Through partnerships with delivery companies there is no reason why we can’t provide items to addresses in Prague as easily as we send them to Partick." |
