TotalPDA helps Police with Crime reduction initiative

22/02/2006

TotalPDA have been working in partnership with the Metropolitan Police to help reduce theft of satellite navigation systems from vehicles.

The Croydon Police have produced a leaflet, which it is hoped will encourage motorists not to leave their sat nav systems or cradle on display in their vehicle.

Acting Sergeant Nick Howden said:

"Over 450 sat nav systems are stolen every month in London alone. Many of these would be prevented if they were removed from the owner’s vehicle when left unattended.

Even if the item is removed from its cradle, a thief may break in to the vehicle hoping to find the unit under the seat or in the glove box. We are asking people not to leave any sign that you have a Sat Nav in the vehicle, which means removing the cradle as well. It is our hope that this will help to reduce the number of people becoming a victim of vehicle crime."

TotalPDA will be supplying warning leaflets with every unit sold to help reduce the risk of our customers' systems being stolen, and in addition, we have supplied dummy units to the Police to help with their operations.
